Privacy Policy

This page explains what happens to your information when you visit this website or get in touch. If we go on to work together, I'll give you a fuller explanation of how I handle your information during therapy before we begin.

Who I am

I'm Jenny Gibbs, a psychotherapist in private practice in Woking, Surrey. I'm responsible for the information described here.

What I collect

When you contact me, I receive your name, your email address, your phone number if you give it, and whatever you choose to tell me.

You don't need to tell me much to get started — a short note about what you're looking for is enough. I'd suggest not putting detailed health information in a first message, as email isn't completely secure. If you do share more, I'll look after it with the same care I'd give anything you told me in the room.

Cookies

This website records basic information about how many pages are viewed. It doesn't use cookies to identify you or follow you around the internet, and there's no advertising or social media tracking.

Why I can hold it

I use what you send me to reply to you and, if it looks like we might work well together, to arrange a first appointment — because you've asked me to take steps towards us working together (Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR). If your message mentions your health, the basis for holding that is the provision of health care by a professional bound by a duty of confidentiality (Article 9(2)(h) UK GDPR). I'm bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

How long I keep it

If we don't go on to work together, I delete your enquiry after six months. If you become a client, it becomes part of your record and is kept as set out in the notice I'll give you then.

Who else sees it

I don't sell your information or add anyone to a mailing list. Squarespace hosts this website and stores contact form messages; Bluehost hosts my email. Both are US-based and operate under safeguards recognised by UK law.

Rarely, I might have to pass information on without your agreement — if I believed someone was at serious risk of harm, or if a court required it. I'd tell you if that happened, unless doing so would make things less safe.

Your rights

You can ask what I hold, get a copy, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how I'm using it. Email me at info@jennygibbs.co.uk — there's no charge and I'll reply within a month.

I'll update this page and change the date above if anything changes.
